Awards Rules

COMPETITION INFORMATION

 

  • The Competition is the 2024 Mark Gunter Photo Awards.
  • The Competition Owner and Organiser is Mark Gunter Photography, and the Promoter is Escape Collective.
  • Information about the Competition can be found at markgunter.com.au.
  • The 2024 Competition begins on 6th December 2024 at 5pm AEDT and ends on 5th January 2025 at 10am AEDT (Sydney, Australia).
  • Late entries can be accepted at the Organiser’s discretion.
  • All dollar amounts hereafter is in AUD currency.
WHO MAY ENTER
  • Entry is open to any person, from any country.
  • Entry is not open to directors and direct employees of Mark Gunter Photography and Escape Collective. Photographers who have contributed to Escape Collective are allowed to enter provided they meet all other requirements.
  • Entry into the Professional Cycling Photographer category is for any Professional photographer, and/or anyone who earns income from his or her cycling photography.
  • Entry into the Amateur category is open to anyone who earns less than $25,000 AUD per year from their photography relating to cycling (ie photographers who earn more than $25,000 AUD in other specialties are allowed to enter the Amateur category).
HOW TO ENTER
  • Entries can be submitted online via this link.
  • Each photo must have been taken between 1st January 2024 and 5th January 2025.
  • There are two categories to enter photos into: 1) Professional and 2) Amateur.
  • All photos must be entered into either; the Professional category or the Amateur category; they cannot be a combination of categories.
  • Entry is via the Entry Form, hosted by a third party competition software (Launchpad6).
  • All photos entered via the entry form will added to the Gallery visible online (unless requested otherwise) and be judged in the Mark Gunter Photo Awards.
ENTRY FEES
  • The entry fee is $10 AUD per photo (or 20% off for limited period of time until 12th December 2024 11pm AEDT).
  • Each entry includes a minimum of 1 photo and a maximum of 10 photos (ie a minimum of $10 AUD per entry to a maximum of $100 AUD per entry).
  • Entrants can enter multiple times.
PHOTO SUBMISSION RULES
  • The competition is skills based, and chance does not play a part in determining the winners.
  • Each photo must relate to the cycling disciplines, excluding gravity MTB, including but not limited to, cycling lifestyle, commuter cycling, cyclocross, track, gravel riding, road racing, a community ride, pave, café culture, road art, cycling landscape scenery.
  • By submitting each photo, the entrant affirms that the photo is of original material taken by the entrant, the entrant is the owner of the copyright, and that the photo does not infringe any third party rights.
  • By submitting at least one photo, the entrant accepts the Rules and confirms that their entry complies with the Rules.
  • The Judges or Competition Organisers reserve the right to disqualify any entrant who is suspected of not adhering to the Rules.
  • Only photographs will be accepted. Video or video screenshots will not be accepted.
  • A caption must be included with each photo submitted (500 characters maximum).
  • Minor enhancements are permitted. Judges discretion applies to all enhancements, and is part of the judging review process.
  • No watermarks permitted.
  • All digital files must not exceed 5MB.
  • For Professional category entries, all metadata (EXIF data) must be provided if requested.
JUDGING
  • Each category will be judged by five judges, selected by Mark Gunter Photography and Escape Collective.
  • The judges’ decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Winners will be announced on 20th January 2025.
  • The Judges will consider the following criteria: capturing the emotion of the image, drawing in the viewer’s attention, creativity, quality, composition, and even sometimes breaking the rules of photography when the story behind the image is particularly powerful.
PRIZES
  • Prizes for the Amateur category can be seen below.
  • Prizes For the Professional category, are the perpetual trophy and medallions.
  • Prizes for the Fan’s Favourite can be seen below.
  • Prize winners are not responsible for any duties or shipping of prizes.
  • If the rules of the competition are broken or suspected of being broken, or if the spirit of the competition has been violated, Mark Gunter Photography and Escape Collective have the right to refuse the prize being awarded. If this occurs, the next winner in line will move up one place.
  • Any additional prizes offered during the competition will be clearly described by the Owner and the Promoter.
VOTING RULES
  • Voting is permitted by any person, from any country.
  • The Fan’s Favourite will be determined by the number of votes allocated to each photo in the gallery.
  • The photo with the maximum number of votes, across both Professional and Amateur categories, will be declared the winner of the Fan’s Favourite.
  • To vote for a photo, go to the Vote Now page, search and select the photo and click Vote Now.
  • The first vote for everyone is free, for one photo only.
  • Subsequent votes require payment, which raise money for cancer research.
DONATION RECIPIENTS
  • The donation recipients and amounts will be announced on www.markgunter.com.au by 31st March 2025.
  • The donations awarded are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The donation recipients may change from year to year.
  • This award is held to raise money to support others through donations. Costs associated with developing and promoting the competition (merchant fees, GST/VAT, software subscriptions, shipping etc), are funded by the entry fees.
  • In 2024, the proceeds from the entry fees (post expense allocations) will be donated to Tour de Cure Ltd. This decision, made by Mark Gunter Photography, is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
USAGE RIGHTS
  • Copyright and all other rights remain that of the photographer.
  • Entrants consent to Mark Gunter Photography and Escape Collective to reproduce, exhibit, publish and communicate their photo(s) for the purpose of marketing and promoting the Competition (including but not limited to, online, social media, print; and without any or additional monetary compensation), in past, present, and future years, unless otherwise agreed upon with the photographer.
  • Any photograph usage described above where practically possible, shall carry the photographer’s credit line or social media recognition.
  • By entering, Entrants consent to their photos published in competition galleries (unless requested otherwise) and to be contacted by Mark Gunter Photography and Escape Collective with competition updates, and can opt out at any time.
  • By voting, Voters consent to receive promotional material and other marketing messages from the Owner, and can opt out at any time.
  • Entrants consent to the previous prize sponsors to publish their photo(s) on their website and social media pages, for any purpose including marketing and promoting the Competition, including in future years.
  • Any other commercial usage will be agreed upon with the photographer prior to use.

PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY

The Professional category prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place are:

1st Place — Perpetual trophy + Gold medallion

2nd Place — Silver medallion

3rd Place — Bronze Medallion

The trophy captures all the winners names & has so far circumvented the globe twice.

AMATEUR CATEGORY

The Amateur category prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place are:

1st Place  — $1,000 AUD clothing pack from Velocio

2nd Place —  $500 AUD clothing pack from Velocio

3rd Place  —  $250 AUD clothing pack from Velocio

The Amateur category celebrates enthusiast, semi-professionals, and avid cyclist using your phone. It’s a highly contested award.

FAN’S FAVOURITE
The Fan’s Favourite prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place are:

1st Place — $500 AUD

2nd Place — $250 AUD

3rd Place — $100 AUD

The Fan’s Favourite will be awarded to the photo with the most votes, from either the Professional or the Amateur category.
