It’s a wrap! The 2018 Mark Gunter Photographer of the Year Awards have closed after five weeks. Showcase Five has been difficult as the last minute rush of entries has given me so much choice! This week we’ve added in a few more images for your viewing pleasure.

A local Canberra (Australia) Criterium race with magpie. This photo was from a series I took through 2018 rediscovering black and white. I was also working with the distortion and interference effects from the heat haze from the bitumen, to accentuate the heat of the Australian summer.

The final moment of stage 2 of 2018 Giro d'Italia, as riders are sprinting towards positions in full gas through the narrow streets of Tel Aviv, with thousands gathering around to observe such a spectacle for the first time. The first and only time a big tour such as the Giro d'Italia occurred in Israel. Exciting times!

Looking at all my favourite rides and switchbacks of 2018 - this one take the top spot! Sunset on the passo Stelvio with empty roads late into the summers evening - bliss, serenity, perfect balance, surfing tarmac ribbons.

Pinning on a number. It's always to good to finish a race in wet conditions upright. Despite the rain stopping before this race around Latrobe Uni there were still wet roads, slippery painted lines and fire engines responding to a fire to contend with. All whilst trying to be first over the line.
